Freelancing in Dubai for Indian Citizens: Work Authorisation and Residence Guide 2026
August 19, 2026

Are you an Indian independent professional providing consulting, technology, finance, marketing, creative or other specialist services? We can help you choose a Dynamic Freelancer membership that includes applicable work-authorisation administration and, where required, UAE residence sponsorship and administration for your professional activity.
Indian citizens can work as independent professionals in Dubai once they hold the UAE work authorisation required for their professional activity. Entry permission does not give you permission to carry out paid work. If you are planning to freelance in Dubai, your setup should reflect your profession and current UAE residence status. At Dynamic Freelancer, our memberships include applicable work-authorisation administration, invoicing and Freelancer Central. UAE residence sponsorship and administration are included according to the membership selected.
Can Indian Citizens Work Independently In Dubai?
Yes. You need the appropriate UAE work authorisation before providing paid professional services.
Indian passport holders have different UAE entry options depending on the travel documents they hold. Eligible Indian citizens with a qualifying US visa or green card, UK residence visa, or EU residence visa can receive a 14-day visa on arrival, subject to current requirements. The qualifying document and passport must have at least six months of validity. The stay can be extended once for another 14 days. Check the current UAE visa-on-arrival requirements before travelling.
If you do not meet those conditions, confirm the entry option that applies to you before travelling.
Visitor status does not authorise paid work. UAE Government guidance states that working while holding a visit or tourist visa is prohibited.

Can You Keep Indian Clients After Moving To Dubai?
Yes, subject to your authorised professional activity, client contracts and tax position.
Our invoicing platform supports UAE and international clients. Eligible independent professionals can continue working with clients in India while building relationships with organisations in the UAE and other markets.
Payments from Indian clients can involve Indian tax or withholding requirements depending on your tax status, the type of service provided and how the income is treated under Indian tax rules.
Do Indian Citizens Pay Indian Tax After Moving To Dubai?
Moving to Dubai does not automatically end your Indian tax obligations. Your tax residence, income and time spent in India affect your position.
For tax years beginning on or after 1 April 2026, residential status is governed by the Income Tax Act, 2025. The basic tests include spending 182 days or more in India, or meeting the 60-day and 365-day test where it applies. Different rules apply in certain circumstances for Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin. Read the official Income Tax Department guidance for the residence tests.
India also has a deemed-resident rule that can apply to certain Indian citizens with Indian income above ₹15 lakh who are not liable to tax in another country under residence, domicile or similar rules. Your individual circumstances determine how these provisions affect you.
India and the UAE have a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA). It sets out how certain income involving both countries is treated and provides relief from double taxation where the relevant conditions are met. You can read the official India-UAE tax agreement.
Speak with a qualified Indian tax adviser with UAE experience for advice based on your residence, income and client arrangements.
What Documents Should Indian Applicants Prepare?
Document requirements depend on your current UAE residence status, selected membership and professional activity.
Your application can involve:
Passport Copy
Passport Photograph
Current UAE Visa Or Residence Details, where relevant
Previous Emirates ID, where relevant
Current Emirates ID, for eligible UAE residents
Professional Documents Or Approvals, where required
Our team reviews your circumstances and confirms the documents required for your selected setup before processing begins.
